How we navigate

Context is key.

Ecology is another word for “context”. We understand that things taken out of context lead to things tipping out of balance. The world around us informs us. Supporting healthy and strategic collaboration across teams is where we begin.

Natural systems ground our design and process work.

Complex and resilient natural systems activate our understanding of human collaboration and sensemaking. Systems break if only data or only feelings are used for navigation. Wisdom and empathy inform each other. We exist to support all of Team Earth, especially the most vulnerable.

Data is a commons.

In information space, data is the landscape. Our common ground. Information is a shared resource that calls for both generous interoperability and robust security. We empower Team Earth citizen members to make decisions about how our data commons is stewarded.

Cooperation is a practice.

Natural systems interact with other adaptive and emergent systems. We are a co-op that nourishes aligned projects, towards the common health of people and our planet. We embed skills for effective cooperative practice into our learning processes and tool design.

Global problems are often collaboration problems.

What is good locally often causes harm elsewhere, and never more than in our networked and interdependent world. If we can see a few steps out, we might avoid some of the unintended consequences that have so many changemaking projects feeling stuck.

Simple rules help coordination.

Find your context, explore your landscape, pool your strategic knowledge. Act. Repeat. Do this lots, with many collaborators, or do this slowly and extensively with just a few. But do it. The process of navigation is critical to getting us out of the messes we have co-created together.

Thanks to Socialroots for developing some of these core principles with us!

Team Earth and Socialroots are partner cooperatives, and share some foundational principles. We work together to support the network coordination work done by Socialroots and to integrate Team Earth’s collaborative strategy tools.

Are these your coordinates too? Join us.

Become a Team Earth citizen:

Our Limited Cooperative Association worker coop has many ways to participate. Own your data, give feedback, and come help define our general member benefits as a citizen member. Citizens who provide consistent and valuable work for Team Earth can become contributing members, and advising and investor member classes are also being shaped by our core team.
